Graduate Teacher Programme

What is the Graduate Teacher Programme?

The Graduate Teacher Programme (GTP) offers you a way to train as a teacher while you are based in a school.  This will be on a supernumerary basis, unless you already have substantial experience as an unqualified teacher in the relevant key stages.  It is normally a one-year programme of postgraduate training leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). With QTS, you would be able to work as a qualified teacher in any maintained school in England.

Please note:  If you are considering teaching abroad the GTP only comes with the award of QTS and most countries require that you hold a PGCE.

You can find more detailed information on Graduate Teacher Programmes on the Training and Development Agency (TDA) website.  http://www.tda.gov.uk/Recruit/thetrainingprocess/typesofcourse/employmentbased/gtp.aspx

What is an Employment Based Initial Teacher Training Provider (EBITTP)?

Employment based Initial Teacher Training Providers (EBITTP) are organisations set up to deliver the GTP in England.  EBITTPS are given an annual allocation of GTP places by the TDA.  The EBITTP takes responsibility for designing and delivering your training programme.  Most EBITTPS are partnerships of bodies such as schools, local authorities (LEAs) and accredited initial teacher training (ITT) providers.

GITEP is an EBITTP and we are a provider of a Secondary GTP and a Primary GTP.

The Secondary GTP has some late availability for salary grant places in Priority Subjects.  If you already have the support of a school please contact us for details.

The Primary GTP is now closed for applications.
